About West African Resources

West African Resources (WAF) is an emerging mid-tier gold producer operating in Burkina Faso. WAF is a leader in sustainable African gold development, having won ‘Gold Miner of the Year’ in 2021 and 2022. At the time of writing, WAF was operating the Sanbrado Gold Project and had recently acquired the Kiaka Gold Project, a large open pit operation also in Burkina Faso.

Problem Statement

WAF, like most, was managing their rosters in Excel, and their travel management system was a mix of Excel, WhatsApp messages, and emails. Managing the master roster, in an environment where flights were frequently changed was an administrative headache.

Inevitably, the roster did not 100% reflect reality which posed issues when R&R balances were to be paid out and the booking process was a convoluted mess that took an unreasonable amount of administration. The WAF team did not want people logistics to grow linearly with the headcount as more operations were added to the business.

Why did they choose Minebright?

West African Resources chose Minebright to develop CrewCarry because of our proven expertise in mining-focused software solutions and deep understanding of the industry’s unique challenges. Our ability to combine technical excellence with operational insight allowed us to design a platform tailored to their needs.

Minebright’s agile development process, commitment to client collaboration, and track record of delivering scalable, efficient solutions made us the ideal partner. By leveraging our experience in workforce logistics and compliance systems, West African Resources trusted us to build a reliable, intuitive tool that would streamline their operations and support their business goals.

The Solution

CrewCarry significantly reduced the time required to manage rosters, and book travel. A portal was developed for WAF’s travel management company to ensure seamless communication from the frontline all the way to the GDS.

By incorporating national labor code regulations, the newly adopted system also improved compliance with local regulations.

Screen displaying a travel dashboard interface with multiple panels, including 'Upcoming Unconfirmed' travel plans, 'Quotes for Distribution,' 'Adhoc Travel Requests,' 'Quoted Events,' 'Ticket Upload Required,' and 'Booked Change Requests.' The interface provides details for travelers, travel statuses, and actions like sending or rejecting requests. A navigation sidebar is visible on the left.

The Results

The adoption of CrewCarry enabled the Mobility Team to accommodate the onboarding of construction and operations staff at the Kiaka Gold Project without an increase in headcount within the team. Minebright is proud of the great performance of the WAF Mobility Team and will continue to support as they scale operations.
